The Basketball Feelings Podcast, Episode 30: Rohan Nadkarni

Sports Illustrated writer on growing into the Heat, endearing interview gaffes, and the Tom Cruise of the NBA.

I’m annoyed that the people in our industry are so uptight that they cannot just name some basketball players they like.

Rohan Nadkarni is so much fun. Maybe you’ve read some of the great work he does as a staff writer at SI — like this cheeky, fun, sincere story on Bam Adebayo — or maybe you listened to him riffing on shows like Spinsters (RIP), either way, his willingness to be surprised in his work and his engaged, affable and sharply curious approach to basketball is always good and can be so refreshing.

We talked about the glamorous logistical habits of NBA media, including never exactly knowing where to enter a new arena and Rohan having an arena security guard aggressively be a menace to him in Oklahoma City, plus, the time Chris Paul called him early, talking to his fav Dwyane Wade on an Amtrak, and other memorable interviews.

We also talked about how we imagine LeBron James texts his friends to make plans, the desperation of All-Star media, growing up in Florida and how he became a Heat fan, the Tom Cruise of the NBA, the Van Gundys, league parity and the surprising way everything being up for grabs this season can feel overwhelming.
